The Channel as Battlefield

 


The English Channel was not a neutral passage.

It was narrow, tidal, and unpredictable. Local knowledge favored defenders. Mistakes were amplified by geography.

England’s greatest ally was familiarity.

Spain fought both fleet and sea.

That geographic imbalance underlies much Armada storytelling today.
